Since we all wrote the dang thing out in no time (based on Chris' initial verse and idea)...it is seen by anyone and on the Forum.

We might have a much bigger problem than the melody, singer(s) or guitar player. That is...the steel solo: Who will play it? On which steel? And will the tone be in their right hand?

i think we prefer 'produced by old men in baggy spandex'!

...and perhaps a final vocal tag of:

'are you blinded by love, or desire?'

Stronger as a statement, I think, echoing the line from the first verse.

During the fade out, we hear a police siren and a guy getting stopped by the cops. You hear the cop's voice, "Let me see your license son... Are you blinded by love or desire?"

All during the fade-out... ;)

Love or Desire

There's a stairway to heaven
and a highway to hell
They start at the crossroads
we all know so well

The path that you choose
can be hard to tell
If you're blinded by love or desire

The streets are all one way
You can't turn around
So head for the runway
that's heavenly bound

On gossamer wings
With nary a sound
And away from the brimstone and fire

It can take you a lifetime
to get to the top
But the slippery slope
to the bottom won't stop

And you can be certain
That after the drop
You'll be stuck in the muck and the mire

If you're blinded by love or desire.

are you blinded by love, or desire?

charlie, i do like the way you assembled the order.
it works perfectly that way.

This would be my humble idea, it's meant to be played as a waltz.
The line beginnig with "The streets" would serve as the chorus.
I didnt know what to do with the end. (Maybe spoken?)

I see what you mean:

"And you can be certain
That after the drop
You'll be stuck in the muck and the mire

If you're blinded by love or desire.

Are you blinded by love, or desire?"

Or what Jim wrote. (Reminds me of the intro to George Duke & Stanley Cklarke's 'Find Out Who You Are' except at the end.)

I also was hearing it in 3/4, but it might be cool to shift to 4/4 after the first or second verse to expand temporal possibilities.
Drums get a little stronger, a solo can stretch out a little...

... or after the second chorus, the twin steel ride can stretch out to infinity.

Hey, what does anybody know?

this is all great. i know the 3/4 possibility fits.
you guys work it all out and let me know when it's time to sign the contract.

interestingly enough, i wrote a song called 'this time the girl is gonna to stay' and then i heard it on the radio in my girlfriend's car as 'i just can't help believin' by bj thomas.
so i'm used to getting screwed in the songwriting game!

First I was thinking the Robert Palmer "Addicted to Love" video girls would be perfect...but then I realized they made that video 30 years ago and now they're as old as our baggy spandex gang.

i think a special ops helicopter would lend some ambience.
can you fly into the video shoot, jeff.
it would at least create that necessary rock n roll wind blown hair vibe.

That stairway to heaven probably will have to have one of those seats that slowly rides up along the handrail. And Chris, some of these guys may not do the windblown hair thing any more either!
